Peter and the Starcatcher
Peter and the Starcatcher is an outstanding opportunity for teens to produce a full-length production and this year, we have a very special collaboration. We will be partnering with our friends at ACAP PlayMakers to collaborate on a set and props and have our casts get to know one another throughout the process. We are hoping to introduce families from both groups to one another and build lasting bonds.

Tony-winning Peter and the Starcatcher upends the century-old story of how a miserable orphan comes to be The Boy Who Would Not Grow Up (a.k.a. Peter Pan). From marauding pirates and jungle tyrants to unwilling comrades and unlikely heroes, Peter and the Starcatcher playfully explores the depths of greed and despair… and the bonds of friendship, duty and love. This Academy program is audition-based. Tuition is $250 and will be due during the first week of rehearsals.
Ages: 12-18
Rehearsals Begin April 1. Rehearsals will take place from 4:00-6:00 Monday through Thursday, with some Sunday rehearsals possible.
Tech: May 5-8, 2024. Rehearsals 5:30-9:00 this week.
Performances: May 9-12, 2024 (Five performances total)
Strike: Set strike will be May 19th, 2024. Participants will be required to attend.

Pre-Audition Workshop: Meet with the directing team, ask questions, and get some tips and tricks for auditions. Attendance at this workshop is not mandatory for auditioners. To attend the workshop, please sign up HERE
What to Prepare: Auditions will consist of two parts. Please prepare a 1 minute monologue and 32 bars of a song (approx 30 seconds to 1 minute). Monologue can be from one of the example monologues, or of the actor’s own choosing. Example monologues can be found HERE
NOTE: Monologue does not need to be memorized, but actors should be familiar with it prior to audition. For songs, an accompanist will be at auditions to play sheet music, or auditioners may sing with a track from their phone.

What to expect from rehearsal
REHEARSAL DATES AND TIME
Rehearsals are generally Monday – Friday from 5 – 8 p.m. (subject to adjustments) and some Saturdays.
Not all students will be called for each rehearsal.
TECH WEEK REHEARSALS (The week of the show)
Tech week rehearsals will be extended from 5 – 9 p.m.
CONFLICTS AND MISSING REHEARSAL
If you are going to miss ANY of the scheduled rehearsals, please list your conflicts and anticipated absences on your audition sheet. Conflicts will be considered when casting. If you have more than 2 unexcused absences you may be asked to leave the production without refund. Excused absences have been disclosed on your audition form or discussed in advance with your directors.
WHAT TO WEAR AND BRING
Rehearsal Attire: Everyone will be learning choreography, so please wear clothes that are comfortable and easy to move in. If you’re wearing street clothes, please make sure that you have a belt for loose pants and shorts under skirts. Covered and comfortable is a general rehearsal guide.
Bring your own water bottle with your name on it.
REHEARSAL BEHAVIOR AND COMMUNITY BUILDING
Respect: We are building a community of respect and consent. Please be respectful of your peers, directors, the building, costumes, props, set pieces, etc.. This program is built to teach you how to be a collaborative member of a production team and we need your help to foster this community of respect and collaboration.
Patience: Be patient with yourself and your peers. We are all learning differently and a little kindness goes a long way. Please do not direct each other, focus on your work and what you can do to help the production. Sometimes we will have down time during rehearsal, so please bring a book, or something quiet to do while you wait. We recommend for you to spend time learning your lines, lyrics, and choreography when you have down time.
FAMILY VOLUNTEERING
Each WCT Academy summer program involves not only kids in the cast, but families as well. We ask each family to volunteer at least 10 hours toward the Academy production. These volunteer options include helping build the set, costumes, parade float building, cast meals, backstage helping, ushering, and more.

ACADEMY PARTNERS WITH ACAP PLAYMAKERS
This project will be the first to bring together Academy Productions and the PlayMakers to create their shows alongside one another. Each group will learn theatre and life skills and create a musical that they will stage for the public in May 2024: “Peter and the Starcatcher” for the Academy and “Tempest Island of ACAP PlayMakers” for the PlayMakers. The two groups will come together several times throughout their respective production processes to build relationships and learn from one another, and they will perform on the same set that will be designed to serve both shows.
The experience will build positive relationships, create learning experiences for all participants, and help to ensure the sustainability of PlayMakers. Staffing and budget changes at ACAP put PlayMakers in danger, so WCT is assuming an expanded role in the program. Bringing together the Academy and PlayMakers productions creates efficiencies that make PlayMakers more cost effective in addition to building relationships and learning opportunities.
