WCT’s Education and Outreach program has been a part of the theatre’s culture since 1957. Classes in theatre arts education; outreach programs like the Civic Broadway Singers, the Civic Senior Players, and the ACT Outreach classes; and theatre performance opportunities like our Community Partners Productions, our ACT Productions, and our PlayMakers productions all add benefits to the community and opportunities for participants of all ages that are priceless.
Academy at Civic Theatre (ACT) offers arts education programs for ages 4-19, there are classes in improvisation, comedy, character development, dance, and acting. Classes are held over Spring and Summer school breaks. WCT is expanding the program to quadruple the number of classes offered over the next four years. Students who are flexing their creative muscles in the present also are developing into a population of citizens with a heightened sense of cultural literacy. These same students will be future participants in the theatre, patrons, donors, volunteers, and ambassadors for the arts.
ACT Productions gives students the opportunity to experience the fun and excitement of participating in a Mainstage show at WCT. Each student participating in this program is guaranteed a role in LEGALLY BLONDE: THE MUSICAL, Jr. However, they will still get the invaluable experience of going through an audition process to determine which role they will have. They will also attend theater classes designed to develop and strengthen their core stage skills as they approach the audition date. We want every student to feel confident and excited about their audition opportunity. Once casting is done, the rehearsal process begins! Students will go through the full rehearsal process and gain a better understanding and appreciation of everything that goes into a mainstage production.
Attend our summer or winter sessions of the ACT Writers' Workshop. Join top-selling national author Reji Laberje, a Baltimore Playwright’s Festival featured playwright, as she takes writers through three intense playwriting sessions, including character study and scriptable moments, to create monologue, dialogue journaling, and play formatting to create scenes.
The Pee Wee Players are a Saturday morning of 4-5 year old fun. Join us for a morning of singing, dancing, and imagination! From start to finish, students will be actively engaged in music and dance classes. They will learn to sing a song, learn some fun choreography to go with the song, and have fun with arts and crafts as they create a piece to be used in their showcase performance.
Be a Star For A Day! Join us for a day of intense fun as we sing, dance, and improvise our way on to the stage. There is no better way to spend a day off from school! Students can sign up for one, two, or all three classes in their age group. Classes will run throughout the day, culminating in a showcase performance at 5pm on the WCT stage. There is a class discount available so don’t miss out on the fun!
