Humphrey Bogart won the Oscar for Best Actor for this film. It was also nominated for Best Actress (Hepburn), Best Director (John Huston), and Best Writing, Screenplay (Huston and James Agee).

After breaking his leg photographing a racetrack accident, L.B. “Jeff” Jeffries (James Stewart) is confined to a wheelchair in his Greenwich Village apartment to recuperate. Through his rear window, he can see across the courtyard into several other apartments – and so he begins to watch his neighbors.

What begins as a harmless way to pass the time turns sinister when Jeff starts to suspect that one of his neighbors has committed a murder. He enlists the help of his girlfriend Lisa and his nurse Stella to investigate the possible crime.
