Academy at Civic Theatre (ACT) offers arts education programs for ages 4-19, there are classes in improvisation, comedy, character development, dance, and acting. Classes are held over Spring and Summer school breaks. WCT is expanding the program to quadruple the number of classes offered over the next four years. Students who are flexing their creative muscles in the present also are developing into a population of citizens with a heightened sense of cultural literacy. These same students will be future participants in the theatre, patrons, donors, volunteers, and ambassadors for the arts.

Each class is a new adventure! Through fun games and creative exercises, students will embark on a fun-filled romp through the world of their own imaginations. From police officers to pirates to panda bears, each week will bring new characters and new surprises. A great introduction to the world of theatre, so join in the fun!
This is a great tool for the serious young actor. Everything from the basics of audition etiquette to monologue selection to the different types of auditions you may encounter. Students will memorize and perform a short monologue for the final class.
NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY! Using text from Shakespeare, students will learn to use rhythm and word to create a memorable, driven character. Though the class will cover much of Shakespeare’s work, the primary focus will be on Twelfth Night. Students will perform a short scene on the final day of class.
Through fun games and imagination exercises, students will work to create their very own original characters. But that’s only half the fun! These characters will then be written into an original, world premiere play that the students will perform on the last day of class! The only requirement is an active imagination!
Learn the hilarious art of improvisation through fun games and outrageous scenes. Students will develop and strengthen their own self-confidence, communication skills and social skills….and laugh a lot, too. No experience is needed, just a willingness to have fun.
Take the next hilarious step in improvisation with this advanced class. Students will continue to develop stronger listening and communication skills while challenging themselves with more complex and difficult games. Previous improvisation experience is required.
This fun-filled class will take you into the incredible world of puppets as you design and build your own. This is a unique opportunity to learn the skill of theatrical puppetry. Students will keep their puppets at the end of the class.
Learn how to create and perform your own stand up routine from local professional comedian Lee LA Lycan.
