October 8 to 10, 2010
2010 marks the 100th anniversary of Mark Twain's death, the 125th anniversary of the first publication of "The Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn", and the 175th anniversary of Mark Twain's birth. It's the perfect time to savor the wit, humor, and heart of an American legend as local performer and radio personality Parker Drew brings Mark Twain to life in this outstanding one man show.
As a young man, Sam Clemens pursued many occupations, but it was when he began writing short stories under the pen name of Mark Twain that the country began to take notice. So, on the advice of a friend, Mark Twain joined the lucrative lecture circuit, developing a unique style of delivery that audiences of that day had never seen before. (We know it today as “stand-up” comedy.) Twain was an immediate sensation, and performed to packed houses around the world. It is fair to say that Mark Twain invented stand-up comedy as we know it today.
Bringing to life the brilliant humor and sage wisdom of Samuel Clemens, in a re-creation of Mark Twain’s persona, is Wisconsin’s own Parker Drew. A seasoned stage and screen performer, Parker became a familiar face to Wisconsin viewers through his fifteen year association with the Wisconsin Lottery Network, co-hosting the weekly Wisconsin Lottery Money Game. If not his face, certainly his voice is recognized by many as the host of the weekday afternoon drive, from 2003 to 2007, on Milwaukee’s legendary WOKY-AM, featuring the popular Ultimate Lounge.
